The European Council announced today that it has decided to impose restrictive measures against eight other individuals and one entity responsible for serious human rights violations in Iran.

He said the Council is imposing sanctions on Ariantel, an Iranian mobile phone provider, which contributed to the telecommunications surveillance architecture the Iranian government put in place to suppress dissent and critical voices in Iran.

The new list also includes members of the Iranian parliament, members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the IRGC Cooperative Foundation — the body responsible for managing the IRGC’s investments.

For its part, Britain, in coordination with the United States and the European Union, announced the imposition of additional sanctions against Iranian officials, including members of the IRGC, who it said are responsible for human rights violations.

The British government said they included four IRGC regional commanders.

“The UK and our international partners are making it clear again today that we will not turn a blind eye to the regime’s callous repression. We will continue to take a range of actions to hold the regime to account for its actions.”
