A plane pilot needed to make an emergency landing on a railroad in the US on Sunday (9) and was rescued by police seconds before a passenger train collided with the aircraft.
Video recorded by a witness shows a group of agents removing the injured pilot from the already damaged plane. Police officers and the victim are just a few meters from the tracks when the speeding train collides with the aircraft, spewing debris into the surroundings.
The incident took place in Pacoima, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, California. According to police information to the Los Angeles Times, the collision took place around 2 pm this Sunday (7 pm in BrasÃlia).
The emergency landing of the plane, a single-engine Cessna 172, would have occurred due to a power failure. The pilot is in his 70s, according to police, and was taken to hospital with cuts and bruises, but in stable condition. He was the sole occupant of the plane. On the train, no one was hurt.
Police also released video of cameras attached to the officers’ uniforms. In the images, it is possible to see at least four police officers removing the bloodied pilot from the aircraft. With cries of “go, go”, the agents drag the man a few meters, and then the train collides with the aircraft.
The department praised the officers who responded to the incident, saying they demonstrated “swift action and heroism”.
