Pope Francis launched an attack on the so-called “culture of annulment” on Monday, according to politico, stating that some are canceling the identity “in favor of diversity”.
In his annual address to the Vatican Diplomatic Corps to representatives of the 183 countries accredited to the Holy See, the pope said vaccination was a “moral obligation” – but also opened fire on the issue of a “culture of annulment”. which people are “expelled”, especially on the internet, because they make comments that are considered “politically incorrect”.
“The culture of annulment is invading many circles and public institutions,” the pope said. “As a result, agendas are increasingly dictated by a mentality that rejects the natural foundations of humanity and the cultural roots that make up the identity of many people.”
Francis characteristically commented that “under the pretext of defending diversity, we end up annulling any sense of identity.” This risks silencing voices that “defend respect and a balanced understanding of the various sensitivities.”
The Pope also said that the culture of annulment is a form of “one-way thought” that seeks to rewrite the past through a modern perspective. He warned that “every historical situation must be explained according to an interpretation of the time.”
He concluded his attack on the culture of annulment by saying: “Diplomacy is called upon to be truly inclusive, not to annul, but to embrace the differences and sensitivities that have historically marked different peoples.”
Last week, the Pope became a topic in the media, as he criticized as “selfish” those who choose to have pets instead of having children.
