Unions plan to use today’s May Day holiday to give fresh impetus to mass protests against pension reform pushed by President Emmanuel Macron’s government.

French authorities expect 500,000 to 600,000 people to participate in the more than 300 rallies across the country.

Mr. Macron’s centrist government considers the reform of the pension system, which foresees in particular the increase of the retirement age from 62 to 64 years, a fait accompli. However, unions and part of the opposition do not agree, they mean instead to continue the fight against it and prevent the implementation of the measures from September 1.

Strike movements for three days caused problems in air routes in France.

In Paris, 100,000 people are expected to demonstrate and the French police fear that there will be incidents.

For the first time, in the French capital, UAVs will be used to monitor the demonstrations.
