The United States and the Turkey worked together to impose sanctions in two people which are associated with financing two terrorist organizations based in Syria. Sanctions have already been imposed on these organizations by the US and the United Nations, as announced by the US Treasury Department.

According to Washington, the targets were Omar Alshik, a leading figure of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, and Qubilai Sari, who raised funds in Turkey from donors on behalf of the Katibat al-Tawhid wal Jihad organization.

“As terrorist organizations continue to seek access to the international financial system, working with our partners increases our ability to more effectively disrupt these networks,” said Under Secretary of the Treasury for Financial Intelligence and Counterterrorism Brian E. Nelson.

On January 5, the US and Turkey jointly targeted an important Islamic State financing network.
