Another two Iranian women actors will be brought to court for appearing without scarf at an event in Tehran, as it became known today from the Fars agency.

According to the agency, an investigation was launched against Afsaneh Baygan and Fatemeh Motamentaria after the two film and television actresses “removed their hijabs during a ceremony”. Both were referred to the public prosecutor.

The photos of the two women went viral on social networking sites. The two actors had attended an event in honor of their famous Iranian colleague, Attila Pesiani.

On April 25, police in the Iranian capital charged two other actresses, Katayoun Riahi and Pandea Bahram, for “committing the offense of removing their hijab in public” and “posting the photos on the Internet.”

The prosecution of the actors came after a new police plan to step up dress checks was implemented in mid-April. The headscarf became compulsory for women after the Islamic Revolution in 1979. In recent months, more and more women have appeared on the street with their heads uncovered, especially after the protest movement that began with the death last September of young Mahsha Amini , who had been arrested for not wearing her headscarf “correctly”. In mid-April the authorities announced that more than 150 shops were closed within 24 hours because their female employees did not wear headscarves.
