A photo of the wreckage of a rusted plane covered in algae at the bottom of the sea – specifically the cockpit – has been going around the world for the last few hours as – as reproduced on social media – it is the Boeing 777 of Malaysia Airlines that disappeared in 2014.
The photo was originally posted on Twitter with the caption “Malaysia flight MH370 that disappeared 9 years ago, found under the ocean without human skeletons. There were 239 passengers on the plane.”

The post had more than 61,000 likes as of Tuesday afternoon and was reposted in droves on other social media as well.
The uproar that was caused was so great that today news agencies and international media announced that it is fake news.
“It is not Malaysia flight MH370 (which is still missing). It’s an abandoned plane that was sunk off the coast of Jordan to create an artificial reef,” the AP reports indicatively.

Specifically, the photo shows an old Lockheed Martin L1011 Tristar plane in the Red Sea and comes from a video posted online by Deep Blue Dive Center, a diving company in Aqaba.
