Shootings took place this morning at the elementary school “Vladislav Rybnikar” in the center of Belgrade.

According to the Ministry of Interior, a 7th grade student (14 years old) entered the school building at 8:30 in the morning and started shooting.

Serbian media reports that there are seven injured, students and teachers, while there are reports of at least one dead, the school guard.

Other reports say there are more dead, including a teacher who reportedly ended up in the emergency room.

The assailant, who fled after the attack, was located and arrested by the police and allegedly fired with his father’s gun. Other information states that the attacker, who was an exemplary student and the son of a doctor, was under the influence of drugs.

Ten ambulances rushed to the school, while many parents have gathered at the scene and are waiting anxiously.

According to reports, the children initially thought someone was throwing firecrackers, and according to witnesses, the student who fired the shot had never been in trouble with anyone.

As the Ministry of the Interior reports, “Members of the Ministry of the Interior in Belgrade were informed that this morning at 08:40 a shooting occurred at the Primary School “Vladislav Ribnikar” in Vračar.

In the statement they say that the police dispatched all available patrol cars and arrested the juvenile suspect, a seventh grade student, who is suspected of firing his father’s gun at students and school security.”
