Seven lawsuits alleging wage theft and workplace discrimination have been filed by nine former employees at the famous Turku instagram chef, Salt Bae.

The former employees of the world Nusret Gökçe accuse him of theft tips, discrimination based on gender, labor violations and a generally hostile work environment, in his many restaurants.

In fact, according to the Independent, a former bartender at Bae’s restaurant in Mykonos compared Gökçe to a “dictator”.

A former bartender at the Nusr-Et restaurant of the Turkish chef in London said the shop looked “gold on the outside but crap on the inside”, while another former barman at the London steakhouse compared the working environment to the movie “The Hunger Games” because staff never knew they were going to be fired at any moment.

A girl who worked as a receptionist at the Nusr-Et restaurant in London told Insider that a colleague of hers he was fired on the spot after accidentally breaking a glass in front of Salt Bae.

Several lawsuits by former employees in two more cities also described Gökçe’s “aggressive style” – for example in August 2021 five former roasters at Nusr-Et New York in New York filed a lawsuit, alleging that “often swears at employees».

Four former employees also alleged in a complaint that he had them steal tips and were fired when they reported it. Gökçe settled the lawsuit in October 2019 for $230,000.

That same year, another former waiter from the New York restaurant alleged that Gökçe “stole” three percent of tips before they were distributed to employees. Again, the Turkish chef settled the lawsuit in July 2020 for $300,000.

“His world was nothing but Instagram and fame. He was the star. He ended up believing he was God,” a former manager told Insider.
