“Washington chooses the targets and that Ukraine is simply implementing American plans,” the Kremlin spokesman told reporters.
Russia today accused the US of being behind it drone attack on the Kremlin to target the assassination of President Vladimir Putin.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the claim at a press briefing, saying Washington should keep in mind that Russia knows it is choosing the targets and that Ukraine is simply implementing American plans. He provided no evidence to support the allegation of American involvement.
Ukraine has denied any involvement in the incident early yesterday, in which video showed two flying objects approaching the Kremlin and one of them exploding with a loud flash.
“The attempts to deny all responsibility for this, both in Kiev and in Washington, are of course absolutely ridiculous. We know very well that decisions on such actions, on such terrorist actions, are not made in Kiev but in Washington,” said Peskov.
He argued that the US often chooses the targets that Ukraine will attack as well as the means by which the attack will be carried out.
“This is often dictated from across the ocean. We are well aware of this and we are mindful of it… In Washington they should clearly understand that we are aware of this.”
The Kremlin has said it reserves the right to retaliatebut has not specified what form this response may take.
Peskov said Russia had many options and the response, when it comes, will be carefully considered and balanced. He said that an urgent investigation is already underway but that he is unable to say when its results will be known.
At the same time, Peskov said that Putin is working in Moscow today, where his security will be strengthened.
The Russian president “is working in the Kremlin, there will be an important discussion with the minister of economic development,” Peskov said, noting that his security would be “strengthened” after yesterday’s incident.
The drone attack on the Kremlin will not go unanswered, says the Russian Foreign Ministry
At the same time, Russia’s foreign ministry said that this attack “should not go unanswered” and shows that Kiev has no desire to end the war on the negotiating table.
In a statement it issued, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs speaks of a wave of Ukrainian “terrorist activities” and “sabotage” without precedent on Russian soil.
“The terrorist and sabotage activities of the Ukrainian armed forces are taking on an unprecedented scope,” it says.
The Russian Foreign Ministry further condemned the West’s “silence” over the incident and called on other countries and international organizations to condemn what Moscow called a terrorist attempt to assassinate President Vladimir Putin.
