The planning of his coronation ceremony King Charles III‘ was done in such a way as to combine the traditional ritual, which dates back almost a millennium, with the multicultural and multi-religious character of modern Britain, as Buckingham Palace points out.

In the presence of around 100 heads of state and other dignitaries, Charles III will be formally crowned king at Westminster Abbey, which has hosted all coronations since 1066 when William I of England was enthroned until today.

Today’s ceremony will for the first time include the participation of spiritual leaders from different faiths with the aim of reflecting the diversity of modern British society.

King Charles III, who as monarch is the head of the Church of England and holds the title “Defender of the Faith”, has repeatedly expressed his desire to defend all religions. According to the official program, for the first time in a coronation ceremony the king will pray for a blessing for everyone regardless of religion and belief.

It also pointed out that those who will present the historic heirlooms to the king – including the sceptre, orb, ring and spoon for the coronation – “will also reflect the diversity of UK society, in contrast to what happened 70 years ago ».

The king’s love of nature will be reflected in the mantle of his wife, Camilla, who will be crowned queen. The royal mantle will depict different types of plants, beetles and bees.
