The climate in Turkey has become dangerously polarized just days before Turkish elections with Recep Tayyip Erdogan launching an attack on Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, accusing him of provocation following yesterday’s stone-throwing incidents at a campaign rally in the city of Erzurum.

“With their own provocation they make a fuss and then shamelessly try to tarnish our cities” characteristically stated the Tayyip Erdogan after the stone attack on Imamoglu’s bus yesterday pointing out that it causes riots and supports terrorists, as reported by SKAI’s correspondent from Istanbul, Manolis Kostidis.

From the side of Ekrem Imamoglou he stated at another rally in Iconium about yesterday’s attack that “they didn’t throw stones at me but at the people they threw stones at democracy” and pointed out how “there will be those who make provocations. It may now be among you. We live in difficult times and they will try to challenge you.”

It is recalled that yesterday Sunday, protesters threw stones at the mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu, who comes from the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) and will take over as vice president if Kemal Kilcdaroglu wins these elections.
