Explosions today rocked Luhansk in eastern Ukraine, one of the regions that Russia illegally annexed last September.

Moscow-appointed regional authorities reported missile attacks by Ukrainian forces, but there were no casualties.

Videos released on social media platforms show thick black smoke rising into the sky over the city of Luhansk, where two rockets were reported to have hit an industrial facility.

Military analysts say the Ukrainian armed forces may have used new long-range missiles since the city is too far from their positions.

Luhansk, the capital of the region of the same name, is 30 kilometers from the Russian border and almost 100 kilometers from the battle front.

As such, it is beyond the range of most missile systems that the Ukrainian military has used to date, such as the American HIMARS.

Britain announced on Thursday that it had delivered Storm Shadow cruise missiles to Ukraine, with a range of around 300km, which allow the Ukrainian military to strike positions of Russian forces from a long distance.
