Berlin to offer Kiev twenty more Marder personnel carriers, 30 Leopard-1 tanks and four IRIS-T-SLM air defense systems
A new €2.7 billion military aid package for Ukraine, including several tanks, armored vehicles and air defense systems, was announced today by the German government.
“We all wish for a quick end to this horrible war of Russia against the Ukrainian people, but unfortunately that is not in sight. For this reason, Germany will provide as much assistance as it can, for as long as necessary,” the German Defense Minister said in a statement. Boris Pistorius.
As part of this assistance, Berlin will provide Kiev with twenty more Marder personnel carriers, 30 Leopard-1 tanks and four IRIS-T-SLM air defense systems, Pistorius noted.
From the side of Andrei Germakchief of staff of the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskysaid in a Telegram post that the country will also receive 200 reconnaissance drones, 100 armored ones as well as a large amount of ammunition.
This is the largest aid package that Germany has offered to Ukraine so far, according to the German magazine Der Spiegel.
The announcement came a day before a possible visit to Germany by Zelensky.
According to German media leaks, the Ukrainian president, who is currently in Rome, is still going to Germany to meet with government officials and receive the Charlemagne award on Sunday.
Zelensky’s visit has not been officially confirmed by Berlin.
