A devastated man lost his wife of more than three decades in a coma after a horrific car crash on Christmas Eve 1991.

Miriam Visintin died on May 10 at the San Bassiano hospital where she had been transferred two months ago due to fluid accumulation in her lungs.

She had been in a coma since she crashed her Fiat Panda in Casoni di Mussolente, Veneto, on Christmas Eve 1991, leaving her with brain damage.

Her husband of 33 years, Angelo Farina, said after Miriam’s death: “She has finally come to terms with the injustice she faced… We had only been married a year and a half when tragedy struck. We were so young and had so many dreams… fate treated her cruelly. She didn’t deserve all this.”

Miriam fell into a coma after suffering severe head injuries when she lost control of her car due to ice on the asphalt.
Doctors told Angelo after the accident that his wife probably wouldn’t live.

Devoted, he said: “When I married her, I vowed to stand by her side with the same passion every minute.”

Her husband visited her in the hospital every day, often several times a day – making only one exception during the pandemic.
