“Explosions in Kyiv. Some in the Solomyansky District,” Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said via Telegram. Several cars caught fire, he added.

He added that debris fell on a zoo in the Shevchenkivski district.

“The air defense is working,” the head of the office of President Volodymyr Zelensky, Andrii Yermak, assured for his part via Telegram. He declined to go into further detail.

The military command of the Kiev region also reported via Telegram that air defense systems repelled a new attack by Russia on the Ukrainian capital.

Journalists from the Reuters news agency reported hearing several explosions that appeared to be caused by the downing of targets by anti-aircraft defenses.
