Press conference after victory of his party in the municipal elections in Albania granted by Eddie Ramawho was also mentioned in Beleris arrest which caused tension in Greek-Albanian relations.

The Albanian prime minister said that he prefers to respect the national elections in Greece and that he will be appointed when they are over.

“I want to respect the elections in Greece and understand the inflammatory rhetoric, striving for as much wisdom and restraint on our part as possible. We did an excellent job with Greece, with Prime Minister Mitsotakis and Minister Dendias, to build a new bridge of cooperation. I, for my part, am obliged to do my best before reacting proportionately”

For the Beleris arrest said he does not plan to make any decisions on the matter before the Albanian judiciary rules, which “was never disputed by anyone, not even me, let alone others, outside of Albania.”

As he pointed out, “there is no other justice for citizens in Albania with Albanian citizenship and another for those with Greek citizenship”.

For the elections in Heimarra and Beleri’s victory, the Albanian Prime Minister said that the process was transparent and peaceful.

“They were held in complete calm, the voting was done without any obstacle, without any incident. Representatives of the diplomatic corps were present as observers, there were journalists from all the media, Albanian and Greek, there were also the police forces who guaranteed the smooth process of the vote, and there was a count, as everywhere in Albania, transparently, peacefully”

For Beleris: “He ended up winning by a handful of votes, but that’s okay.

All this completely rejects any kind of argument that there was an attempt to obtain, from us, a victory by illegal electoral means. All this has nothing to do with the decision of the court, on the proposal of the prosecutor, for the specific candidate. Therefore, I believe that this argument is enough so that things are not confused,” Rama said.

The Albanian prime minister also said that the Greek minority should not be treated as fodder for electoral issues.

There is no other justice for citizens in Albania with Albanian citizenship and another for those with Greek citizenship. The institutions of justice have their faults and burdens. So I heard a lot, but I preferred not to speak. I will not speak until the elections in Greece are over. I have heard both Syriza and PASOK, parties which are considered to be the respective fraternal parties for the Albanian socialist, speak strongly about this issue. The Greek minority is not a ball of meat to be thrown around for pre-election purposes,” said Rama.
