A police officer from London’s Metropolitan Police has been sacked after pretending to be on duty to gain backstage access at the All Points East Music Festival.

Constable Hasnain Awan was found guilty of serious misconduct at a misconduct hearing held on May 5, according to the Hackney Gazette.

Awan reportedly worked a shift for London’s Metropolitan Police at the Festival being held in London’s Victoria Park on August 28, 2021, and was then given a wristband to allow him to enter the venue and perform his duties.

The next day he was off duty but reportedly attended the Festival with a non-police friend.

Awan reportedly went to the Festival’s accreditation office and told staff he needed a new wristband because his was confiscated as evidence after it was stained with blood.

He is then believed to have given the new wristband to his friend and entered using the one he had worn the day before, securing both of them access to the concerts without paying the £95 entry ticket.

At noon of the same day, he allegedly tried to enter the backstage area of the Festival by showing his police ID. When Inspector May Robinson, who was in charge of policing at the Festival, questioned him, Awan is believed to have said that Festival staff knew he was not on duty.

“By his own admission he lied on more than one occasion and the commission found that he did so in his own self-interest. He knew exactly what he was doing and it was repetitive behavior,” the police report states.
