THE Tim Scottthe only one African American Republican Senatorofficially submitted his candidacy today, claiming the anointing of his party to be a candidate for the 2024 presidential elections.

Scott, the penniless child of a single-parent family from South Carolina, often presents his personal story as proof that America remains the land of opportunity. He filed his declaration of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission today.

His affable demeanor contrasts with his declared or potential rivals for the Republican nomination, such as former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSandis, who portray the US as a country in decline that needs to be rescued from the corrupt , left elite.

Being black and conservative, Scott is a rare exception in a country where 92% of African-American voters backed Democrat Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election. 55% of white voters voted for Trump.

Scott has frequently criticized Trump during his presidency for making racist comments and has blocked many of the judicial nominees the tycoon president has nominated for the same reason. At the same time, however, he accused Democrats of exploiting racial tensions for partisan gain.

Although he has stated that he was a victim of racial prejudice, he insists that the US is not a racist country.

However, he does not appear to have much of a chance of winning the nomination since, according to polls, only 2% of Republicans plan to vote for him in the primary and his name is not particularly well known nationwide. More than half of Republicans plan to vote for Trump and about a fifth for DeSandis, who is expected to enter the race within the next few days.
