Qatar’s embassy in Khartoum was attacked by gunmen and vandalized, according to the emirate’s foreign ministries and Sudan. Embassy staff have been away for several weeks due to the war rocking Sudan.

The general Abdel Fatah al Burhan, Sudan’s army chief and de facto leader, blamed the attack on General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo’s paramilitary organization, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). In its announcement, the Foreign Ministry said that members of the DTY attacked and ransacked the embassy, ​​taking with them computers and vehicles.

It’s not the first time Khartoum blames DTY for attacks on diplomatic missions: holds them responsible for a number of other attacks, on the embassies of India and South Korea, on the residence of Swiss diplomats, on a section of the Turkish consulate and on the cultural affairs office of Saudi Arabia.

In her own announcement, Doha clarified that there were no casualties from this attack as embassy staff had already been evacuated for security reasons.

Earlier today, residents of the capital told AFP reporters that airstrikes and artillery fire were continuing in the capital, where the army and DTY they clash for power. Other eyewitnesses said an area near the headquarters of public television was shelled.
