The small basset griffin Vendéen who call it Buddy Holly is this year’s winner at the Westminster Dog Show. It is the first time in the show’s 147-year history that a dog of this breed won the Best in Show title.

The six-year-old pooch, named after the late rock and roll legend, beat 2,500 dogs from 210 different breeds to take the top spot. “It never occurred to me that a PBGV (s.s. This year’s Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, the most prestigious dog show in the US, took place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York, home to the US Open’s premier tennis matches.

After the award, Buddy Holly posed for countless photos and with the nonchalance of a veteran rock star enjoyed great meals. “We are so proud of him,” Hayes said. “It screams PBGV. They are very independent and very charming and just goofy. Their purpose is to make you laugh all dayhe underlined.
