The frozen dessert is called “white night” in Japanese and broke the Guinness record
Ice cream is a summer treat for young and old. But there is an ice cream made of… gold whose price is as high as all the ice creams you’ve probably eaten all summer.
The frozen dessert, called “white night” in Japanese, currently costs 880,000 yen ($6,380) a serving, officially making it the most expensive ice cream in the world, according to Guinness World Records.
Japanese ice cream brand Cellato calls “byakuya” a gelato on its website. It contains white truffles from Italy and is topped with an edible gold leaf, two types of cheese and ‘sakekasu’, a paste-like ingredient derived from the sake-making process.
“It took us over 1.5 years to develop, with a lot of trial and error to get the flavor right,” a company representative said earlier in Guinness World Records.
The company said its mission is not just to make delicious expensive desserts, but to create a culinary adventure that combines European ingredients and traditional Japanese foods.
The sweet is available for sale in Japan and is being shipped directly to consumers, according to Cellato’s website.
Additionally, they recommended pairing the flavor with sake or a French white wine.
