A SpaceX rocket docked with the International Space Station today, carrying four passengers, including, for the first time, two Saudis traveling as part of a private mission by the American company Axiom Space.

Scientist Rayana Barnawi is the first woman from Saudi Arabia to travel in space.

Her compatriot Ali Al Karni is a fighter pilot.

“It’s been an enjoyable trip,” commented mission commander Peggy Whitson, a former NASA astronaut who has been on the ISS three other times. “This was the smoothest docking I’ve ever experienced,” he added.

The fourth member of the mission is American businessman John Soffner.

This team will cohabitate the ISS with the seven astronauts already there, three Russians, three Americans and one from the United Arab Emirates.

The SpaceX rocket launched on Sunday from Florida and the journey to the ISS took about 16 hours. This mission, called Ax-2, is the second fully private mission to the ISS. Its members will stay 10 days on the Station and plan to do about 20 scientific experiments.
