The Supreme Court has dealt a blow to US President Joe Biden, overturning its decision to impose compulsory vaccination of employees in companies that employ more than 100 people.
The Supreme Court, however, upheld the mandatory vaccination of Covid-19 for those working in federally funded health facilities.
The Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) had issued a decision concerning companies with at least 100 employees, requiring them to either be vaccinated or tested on a weekly basis for Covid-19. The policy affected more than 80 million employees and should be implemented by Monday. However, the State of Ohio and an association of businessmen appealed to the Supreme Court for its annulment and were acquitted. By a vote of 6 (all conservative judges) against 3 (liberals), the Supreme Court blocked the implementation of a Cincinnati Court of Appeal ruling that had given the green light since December 17 to allow vaccinations to proceed.
The other order, upheld by the Supreme Court by a vote of 5 (three liberal and two conservative judges) to 4 (the rest of the conservative judges), concerned the vaccination of some 10.3 million workers in 76,000 health facilities, such as hospitals and nursing homes. receiving money from Medicare and Medicaid insurance programs for seniors, the disabled, and low-income Americans. Workers in these structures should be vaccinated by the end of February.
