Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has reportedly struggled in recent months with a torn tendon in his foot, a development that could lead to surgery this summer, The Athletic has revealed.

“I was told that the condition of his leg is being reassessed. He will most likely need surgery which could keep him out for two months,” the report said.

The 38-year-old just completed his 20th season in the NBA, watching the Lakers get … swept by the Denver Nuggets (4-0) in the Western Conference finals. In 16 playoff games, he averaged 24.5 points, 9.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists in 38.7 minutes.

He was on the team’s injured list throughout the postseason with a sore right leg, but did not miss any games.

After Monday’s Game 4 loss to Denver, James told ESPN he heard a “pop” when he injured his foot in the Feb. 26 game against the Dallas Mavericks.

“I’m going to get an MRI and see how the tendon is,” James said Monday, adding, “We’ll see what happens.”

“King James” also said that he is thinking about retiring from active action, but Athletic estimated that “we will see him play next season as well”.
