Daniel Saldana was sentenced in 1989 to 45 years to life for six attempted murders – He also went to prison at 22 and was released at 55
From the beginning he should learn to live as a free man 55 years old American, who went to prison at the age of 22 and was released today, after 33 years incarcerated.
The worst? This man was convicted of a crime, of which he was ultimately – after 3 decades – proven innocent.
O Daniel Saldana was sentenced in 1989 to 45 years to life in prison for the attempted murders of six high school students in Baldwin Park, Los Angeles, in a 1989 shooting incident.
Saldana was 22 at the time and was working as a construction worker nearby. He was one of three in total who were convicted in the case.
In 2017, another of the convicts stated that Saldana “had no involvement in the incident and was not even there.”
This information never reached the Prosecutor’s Office and Saldana remained in custody for another 6 years.
Finally, the element of innocence of the unfortunate man became known to the authorities only last February, when the Prosecutor’s office of California launched a new investigation.
Prosecutor Georges Gascon apologized to the 55-year-old and his family, posting a video of his release.

“The fact that a man ends up in prison for a crime he did not commit is tragic in itself, but we must remember that whenever an injustice of this magnitude takes place, the real culprits remain free to commit other crimes,” said prosecutor.
