Police investigations are mainly focused on the sailing ship “Andromeda”, which may have been used to transport the explosives used in the September 2022 sabotage in the Baltic Sea
New evidence in pipeline sabotage investigation Nord Stream connecting Russia to Germany lead to Ukraine, the German weekly reports today Der Spiegel magazine.
Police investigations are mainly focused on the sailing ship “Andromeda”, which may have been used to transport the explosives used in the September 2022 sabotage in the Baltic Sea.
The metadata of an email sent from the yacht’s location points to Ukraine, according to Der Spiegel.
The magazine also reports that traces of an explosive, cyclotetramethylenetetranitramine, “widely distributed in both Western and former Eastern Europe” were found on board.
On September 26, 2022, four major gas leaks following undersea explosions were detected in the pipelines that connect Russia to Germany and transport most of Russian gas to Europe.
The first suspicions were that it was an attack, giving rise to various hypotheses for the perpetrators of this logistically complex and diplomatically sensitive operation.
Months after the explosions on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, responsibility for the submarine attack remains a mystery despite investigations in the countries of the region (Germany, Sweden and Denmark).
