Serious questions about the chancellor’s security are caused by the incident with a man who managed to infiltrate Olaf Scholz’s motorcade in Frankfurt the day before yesterday, but also to finally approach him, greet him and hug him, without his bodyguards initially even reacting.

The Federal Crime Agency (BKA), which was responsible for the chancellor’s security together with the Hesse state police, today announced a “thorough investigation” into Olaf Soltz’s breach of security protocol. “On the evening of May 24, before the chancellor’s departure, there was a security incident at the Frankfurt airport premises”, said a representative of the VKA to the RND network and referred to a 48-year-old man who managed to find himself in the chancellor’s motorcade. According to BILD, the man was driving a black Audi A5 with Hessian plates, while the convoy consisted of dark-colored Audi A8s with Berlin plates, but no one noticed him. He drove at high speed with the official state cars for 20 kilometers and managed to pass the safety bar with them to the airport runway.

Deputy government spokesman Wolfgang Buchner admitted that “there are question marks” in relation to the incident, which will be carefully investigated. Interior Ministry spokesman Sasha Lawrence described the security gap at Frankfurt airport as “unacceptable” and stressed that the issue “is being taken very seriously.”

BILD reports in its report that the man was under the influence of drugs. As he later admitted, he had used cocaine and was in a state of confusion.
