The 30-year-old passenger claimed he opened the exit door because he wanted to leave the aircraft quickly
A court in South Korea issued an arrest warrant today for a passenger who opened the emergency exit of an Asiana Airlines plane while it was in the process of landing at Daegu Airport in South Korea, Yonhap news agency reported.
The man, aged in his 30s, was arrested on Friday after opening an exit door on an A321-200 aircraft when it was 213 meters above the ground, causing panic among passengers.
The Daegu District Court issued the warrant against the man, charging him with violating laws governing aviation security, announcing that there was a risk of him attempting to escape, ahead of his trial.
The warrant allows the police to extend his detention for a longer period of time.
During the court hearing, no charges were brought against him.
Authorities released his last name as Lee, without releasing his full name, as is customary.
Lee claimed that he opened an exit door of the aircraft because he wanted to leave the aircraft quickly.
