The Venetians woke up on Sunday morning to an unusual sight. A section of the famous Grand Canal had turned a strange fluorescent green color. Local authorities collected water samples and launched an urgent investigation to find out what was going on.
“This morning a spot of fluorescent green liquid appeared in the Grand Canal of Venice, reported by some residents near the Rialto Bridge. The prefect called an urgent meeting with the police to investigate the origin of the liquid,” Veneto regional president Luca Zaia tweeted.
Rumor has it that the canal was turned green by activists who probably threw paint in protest. However, no environmental group claimed responsibility.
The authorities receive information from gondoliers, incidents and also from cameras in order to understand how the water got this strange color.
It is recalled that a few days ago, activists entered the Trevi Fountain in Rome and threw coal into the water to protest the climate and the government’s indifference to its changes.
