Russia has stepped up airstrikes against the Ukrainian capital since the beginning of the month, but so far almost all of them have been carried out overnight.
New Russian air attack this morning he targeted the Kyiv resulting in injury to at least one personwhile the Ukrainian authorities admitted, in a very rare public statement, that military installation in the western part of the country was hit by another wave of blows during the night.
After the night bombings, the sirens sounded and again this morning at Ukrainian capitalfollowed by a series of explosions around 11:10 local time (and Greek time), as reported by AFP.
“Explosions in the city, in downtown districts”mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram. “The anti-aircraft defense has been activated,” added the military command of Kyiv.
THE Russia intensified airstrikes against the Ukrainian capital since the beginning of the month, but until today almost all of them took place during the night.
According to the mayor, one man was injured and taken to the hospital so far. Missile debris fell in at least three districts in the northern and eastern parts of the capital, causing fires, according to the military command.
“All (Russian) air targets were successfully hit by anti-aircraft defenses,” said the source, saying that “The Russians clearly show that they intend to destroy the civilian population.”
Earlier today, the administration of the Khmelnytskyi region, in western Ukraine, said a military facility was hit by a Russian attack overnight, implying that it was a warehouse and a military airport.
“Russian troops hit several facilities including a military one in Khmelnytskyi region”he reported on Telegram.
The same source spoke of “fires in fuel depots” and military equipment and of the runway that was damaged. “Work to contain the fires continues,” he said.
“Five flying vehicles were put out of service,” the source added, without elaborating. “Runway repair work has begun,” according to management.
He did not give a number of any casualties, saying only that this information “are in the clarification stage”.
This is a very rare public statement by Ukrainian authorities who have almost never disclosed their military casualties since the Russian invasion began in February 2022.
This bombing in western Ukraine is part of a massive air attack against the country that began last night, a day after an attempt to strike with unmanned aircraft (drones) against Kiev.
“Tonight, the occupation forces attacked military facilities and key infrastructure facilities in Ukraine,” firing “up to 40 cruise missiles” from planes over the Caspian Sea and “about 35 drones” from the North and South, he said today via Telegram the chief of staff of the Ukrainian army Valery Zaluzny.
In the capital Kiev alone, “more than 40 air targets” were destroyed overnight, the city’s military administration said, in what it said was the 15th attack on the capital since the start of the month.
“Another difficult night for the capital”, the mayor of the city, Vitali Klitschko, said on Telegram. “Thanks to the professionalism” of the air defense, the attack did not cause casualties or major damage, he added, however.
With their repeated bombings, the Russians “seek to exhaust the air defenses” of Ukraine and “maintain the civilian population in a state of great psychological tension”the military administration of Kyiv estimated for its part.
Ukraine has been preparing for months a major counterattack against the Russian troops who occupy large areas in the southern and eastern parts of the country.
“The time will soon come when we will go on the counterattack”assured today the commander of the Ukrainian ground forces, General Oleksandr Sirsky.
