The revision process of the Constitution of the Archdiocese of America was at the center of the meetings of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, in which the Archbishop of America Elpidophoros participates and which met in Fanari yesterday and the day before.

The Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate instructed the Provincial Synod of the Archdiocese of America to study thoroughly and over time the proposals of Archbishop Elpidophoros for the revision of the provisions of the current Constitution, while, validating its previous decision, it encouraged the Archbishop to expand the dialogue with clergy and laity throughout America.

In fact, the discussion on the whole matter will continue, within the framework of the meetings of the Provincial Synod of the Archdiocese of America, around the middle of June.

For the rest, the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate decided to continue the work of the Joint Commission, which it had set up for the revision of the Constitution under the chairmanship of the Elder Metropolitan Chalkidonos Emmanuel, next September.

Finally, the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate decided the affiliation to the Archdiocese of America of Metochia of the Patriarchal and Cross Monastery of Saint Irene Chrysovalantos, based in Astoria, adopting the relevant proposal of the Archbishop of America Elpidophoros.

In his statements, the Archbishop of America expressed his gratitude for the constant trust in him and the continuous encouragement of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, in the context of the revision process of the Constitution of the Archdiocese of America.

As he emphasized, his commitment to a review process with transparency and open collaboration with all agencies is clear, as the Constitution of the Archdiocese of America is of fundamental importance for the pastoral care of the faithful. He also expressed his gratitude to the Ecumenical Patriarch for assigning the responsibility of the pastoral care of the shares of the Holy Monastery of Chrysovalanto, which become parishes of the Archdiocese of America.
