Ten people were injured in fire which broke out earlier today in strawberry farm close to Berlin. Thick smoke was visible for miles from the scene.

In the “Karl strawberry village”, which receives daily visitors and mainly children, the fire started in the barn for reasons still unclear, while the premises were full of visitors. According to the fire department, which operates with a force of 60 people, nine people were taken to hospital with breathing problems due to fumes, while one firefighter was injured during the extinguishing operation.

The head of the operation, Robert Dahl, told the German news agency dpa that the damage was limited and assured that the village would be open to visitors again from tomorrow. The ‘strawberry village’ is a hugely popular destination for families, offering a variety of strawberry-themed activities and receiving more than a million visitors a year.
