Christie, 60, officially announced his candidacy yesterday at a rally in New Hampshire after filing the necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission.
Former New Jersey Governor Mr Republican Chris Christie, his former ally Donald Trump who has been reduced to one of his fiercest opponents, announced yesterday Tuesday that he is a candidate for the party’s anointing ahead of the 2024 presidential elections.
Christie, 60, officially announced his candidacy yesterday at a rally in New Hampshire after filing the necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission.
Already candidates for the Republican nomination are, in addition to former President Trump, the governor of Florida Ron DeSandis and the former US vice president Mike Penceincluding.
Christie is still very low in voter intention and has already begun his attacks on Trump, who appears to be the favorite so far, calling him self-centered and dishonest.
The former president “always finds someone or something to blame for what goes wrong, but always finds a way to take credit for what goes right,” Christie complained.
In 2016 the former governor of New Jersey was again a candidate for the Republican nomination.
Trump was quick to respond to the attacks, saying Christie’s speech was “boring” and “hard to watch.” “This is what one expects from a failed governor,” he added.
The former president also hinted that he might not participate in at least one of the first two debates between the Republican candidates.
“If he really cares about the country — and I have serious doubts about that — then he should go, he shouldn’t be afraid,” Christie said on a radio show.
He also criticized the billionaire on a number of other issues, mainly referring to the many legal investigations against him and calling him “a puppet of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin”.
