China today expressed “deep concern” after the partial dam destruction in Ukraine, which caused flooding along the Dnieper River, sparking fears of a humanitarian disaster.
The attack, for which Moscow and Kiev blame each other, had the effect of flood many communities and force thousands of people to leave their homes, causing an international outcry.
“We are deeply concerned about the damage to the dam of the Kahovka Hydroelectric Power Station,” Wang Wenbin, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, told a regular news conference.
“We are deeply concerned about the human, economic and ecological impact and call on all parties to the conflict to respect international humanitarian law and do everything possible to protect civilians and civilian facilities.”
