Fighting around Bakhmut “remains the focus of hostilities,” Ukraine’s deputy defense minister said Wednesday.

Speaking on Telegram, Hana Maliar said that Ukrainian forces have managed to gain some territory ranging from 200 meters in some areas to 1,100 meters in others.

Maliar also noted that Wagner’s troops had largely withdrawn, noting that they “remain in some places in the rear” and the vast majority of the fighting is now being fought by regular units of the Russian Federation, including airborne units.

One dead from Russian bombing in Kherson

Meanwhile, one civilian was killed and another wounded when Russian airstrikes hit residential areas on Tuesday, Ukrainian authorities said, as the southern region faces flooding after a dam burst.

“The Russian invaders fired 70 times at residential areas in the Kherson region,” the region’s regional military command said. “They fired 353 rounds from artillery, mortars, MLRS, tanks, drones and aircraft.”

The frontline city of Kherson was bombed nine times, the administration added.
