“The evacuation continues in the Chersona region. Our rescuers, police and volunteers, have already evacuated 1,894 people,” Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klymenko told public television.
According to Klimenko, 30 communities have been flooded, ten of which are in the zone controlled by Russian forces.
For their part, the occupying authorities announced that they have so far evacuated “more than 4,000 people”. The Moscow-appointed governor of Kherson, Vladimir Saldo, said via Telegram that those affected would be accommodated in temporary accommodation centers.
The largest city affected in occupied Kherson is Nova Kahovka, which is located very close to the dam. The pumping of water will start from tomorrow, Thursday, said the Russian-appointed mayor, Vladimir Leontiev.
