Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi will tour three Latin American countries – Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela – next week, the state-run IRNA news agency reported Wednesday, clarifying that the trip follows invitations from his counterparts.

Agreements to expand bilateral cooperation will be signed during all three visits of Mr. Raisi, the agency added, referring to the fields of economy, politics and science, without going into details.

He will leave Tehran for South America on Sunday, June 11, according to IRNA.

On the tour, he is expected to hold one-on-one talks with his counterparts in all three of the Islamic Republic’s allies in the region with left-wing governments the West accuses of human rights abuses.

Iran and Venezuela are members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
