Australian police said today that a bus was involved in a crash that killed ten people and injured eleven others in the Hunter region of New South Wales, near the town of Greta, some 180 kilometers northwest of Sydney.

It is an area with vineyards, which are highly appreciated by tourists.

The 58-year-old bus driver was taken with a police escort to a hospital to undergo the mandatory tests.

“Based on the first data of the investigation, ten people are dead. Eleven [τραυματίες] transported to hospital by road and helicopter, [άλλοι] 18 passengers are safe,” the police said in a press release, clarifying that the casualty count is provisional.

According to Australian media, the bus was returning from a wedding celebration. He veered off course, overturned and fell from an uneven junction ramp about half an hour before midnight [τοπική ώρα· χθες Κυριακή περίπου μισή ώρα πριν από τις 17:00 ώρα Ελλάδας].

An investigation is underway into the cause of the fatal traffic accident.
