He revealed that he rejected a request by the former prime minister to intervene in the decision-making process to award titles of honor and nobility
London, Thanasis Gavos
The first position on Boris Johnson’s resignation from the parliamentary office was made by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the sidelines of his speech on his policy in the field of technology.
He revealed that he rejected a request by the former prime minister to intervene in the decision-making process to award titles of honor and nobility.
Specifically, you are invited to comment on the revelation that of Johnson’s resignation was preceded by the rejection by the competent committee of the House of Lords of eight of the names proposed by the former prime minister for the awarding of honorary titles, the current prime minister replied:
“Regarding the honors and Boris Johnson, Boris Johnson asked me to do something I wasn’t prepared to do because I didn’t think it was right. That was either to ignore the House of Lords appointments committee or make promises about some people. I wasn’t willing to do that. Like I said, I didn’t think it was right. And if some people don’t like that, so be it.”
After applause from the audience at this point, Mr Sunak added that he had said he wanted to operate differently as prime minister and that is what he is doing.
It is noted that in the long resignation statement on Friday, Boris Johnson also included an attack on the political leadership of Mr. Sunak.
During the day, the Immunity Committee of the House of Commons meets to close the investigation into the misleading of the parliament by the former prime minister regarding the partygate scandal, an investigation that was stopped and the reason for the resignation.
Two of his close allies, Nadine Dorries and Nigel Adams, accompanied Boris Johnson on the road to immediate resignation from the parliamentary seat.
Opposition Labor leader Sir Keir Starmer called on Rishi Sunak to find the courage to call an election amid turmoil in the Conservative Party.
In his speech on technology Mr Sunack said among other things that his ambition is to “make the UK the best country in the world for technology”.
Once again he focused on the field of Artificial Intelligence, speaking of “impressive possibilities”, but also the need for investments in the safe use of this technology.
He added that he wants to make the UK a theoretical as well as a geographical center for Artificial Intelligence. He reiterated that the country will host the first international conference on the security of Artificial Intelligence and added that the government is talking to companies in the sector for quick access to their technological models.
