The arrest of the leader of the organization “Political Protection” – who allegedly instigated the incidents of May 29 – has ignited new tensions
Tension is causing in the north Kosovo the arrest, today, Tuesday, of a Serb who is considered responsible for the episodes on May 29 in the town of Zvečan when Serbian demonstrators clashed with the KFOR force, with dozens injured on both sides.
As stated by the Minister of the Interior of Kosovo, Jellal Svetslia, he was arrested chief of the “Civil Protection” organization who allegedly instigated and organized the attacks against members of the international peacekeeping force and the police.
As reported by the Serbian media, the arrest took place in a store in northern Mitrovotsa by the special forces of the Kosovo Police.
During the operation the police used tear gas to push back a group of Serbs who were trying to block the withdrawal of the police forces.
The sirens in North Mitrovica they sounded and hundreds of Serbs are gathered in the center of the city.
“The era of criminal gangs in the north of our country is over. All individuals or criminal groups who violated the security and constitutional order of the Republic of Kosovo will face justice,” Jellal Svetslia said in his statement.
The head of the Serbian government’s Kosovo office, Petar Petkovic, condemned the police operation in North Mitrovica, stating that “the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, is not interested in maintaining peace but seeks conflict and war.” Petkovic called on the international community to intervene and announced that the commander of KFOR is coming to Belgrade tomorrow to meet with the president of the Republic and the head of the GES of Serbia.
