THE police in Britain interrogating a man A murder suspect was arrested on Tuesday as they look for a motive for knife and van attacks in the city. Nottingham which left behind three dead and as many wounded. After the call received by the police on Tuesday at 4am (local time, 06:00 Greek time), spotted on a street in the center of Nottingham two nineteen-year-olds — a male and female student — with stab wounds. A 50-year-old man was also found dead on another road, about 3 kilometers away.

The alleged perpetrator then used a van, which belonged to the 50-year-old victim, to run over three people, one of whom is in critical condition. After stopping the vehicle, police used a taser to detain and arrest the 31-year-old man. No other suspects are being sought in the incident.

As reported by the BBC, official sources have confirmed that the suspect is of West African origin. Also there is information according to which he is dealing with psychological problems. Other sources noted that the suspect is not a British citizen but has lived in Britain for “many years” legally and has no criminal record.

At this stage counter-terrorism officers are involved in the investigation, with Nottinghamshire Police Inspector Kate Meinell saying authorities have not ruled out any possibility. “We are still in the early stages of the investigation and we need to identify the motives behind the attacks,” she said.

The murderous episode unfolded in less than two hours.

The incident has shocked the city, especially the student community, as Nottingham has two universities with a total of more than 50,000 students. British media reported that one of the two victims, Grace Kumar, played for England’s junior hockey team. The other student, Barnaby Webber, was a cricketer.

The University of Nottingham confirmed “with great sadness” that the two 19-year-olds were studying at the institution and clarified that they were attacked while returning to their homes after party for the end of exams. A graduation event planned for Tuesday was postponed, while the university’s student union said it was “shocked and appalled” by the attack.

Police were called to an incident in Ilkeston Road at around 4.00am. The two students were found dead there. Shortly after 5:00, the body of the man, from whom the van was stolen, was found on Magdala Street, about 3 kilometers away from where the first two bodies were found. At around 5:30 the van crashed into three people who were waiting at a bus stop on Milton Street. One of the three is still hospitalized and fighting for his life. The other two were slightly injured.

Shortly after the van attack, the vehicle was stopped and its driver was arrested.
