Other sources noted that the suspect is not a British citizen but has lived in Britain for “many years” legally and has no criminal record.
At this stage counter-terrorism officers are involved in the investigation, with Nottinghamshire Police Inspector Kate Meinell saying authorities have not ruled out any possibility. “We are still in the early stages of the investigation and we need to identify the motives behind the attacks,” she said.

The University of Nottingham confirmed “with great sadness” that the two 19-year-olds were studying at the institution and clarified that they were attacked while returning to their homes after party for the end of exams. A graduation event planned for Tuesday was postponed, while the university’s student union said it was “shocked and appalled” by the attack.

Shortly after 5:00, the body of the man, from whom the van was stolen, was found on Magdala Street, about 3 kilometers away from where the first two bodies were found. At around 5:30 the van crashed into three people who were waiting at a bus stop on Milton Street. One of the three is still hospitalized and fighting for his life. The other two were slightly injured.
Shortly after the van attack, the vehicle was stopped and its driver was arrested.
