Pope Francis underwent intestinal surgery, following some findings that doctors found in the last tests he underwent
Pope Francis is expected to be discharged from Rome’s Agostino Gemelli hospital tomorrow, according to a Vatican announcement.
Pope Francis underwent an operation on the intestine, after some findings that the doctors found in the last tests he underwent.
The director of the Press Office of the Holy See, Matteo Bruni, announced that:
“The medical staff informs that Pope Francis rested well during the night. His clinical course is progressing normally. Blood chemistry tests are within the normal range.
Last night he dined at a joint meal with those who have been helping him since the day of his admission.
This morning, as a token of thanks, he received the entire operating room team, consisting of the medical staff, nurses, social and health workers and support staff who coordinated, performed and made possible the operation on June 6.
Then he met with A.A. the Venerable Claudio Giuliodori, General Ecclesiastical Assistant of the Catholic University, and Don Nunzio Currao, Spiritual Assistant of the staff of the Polyclinic – then with the representatives of the Board of Directors of the Fondazione Policlinico Gemelli, with the President, Mr. Carlo Fratta Pasini, and Rector of the Catholic University, Professor Franco Anelli, together with the governing bodies of the Polyclinic, with the General Director, Professor Marco Elefanti.
At the end of the visit, he went to the ward of pediatric oncology and pediatric neurosurgery, where the young patients who expressed their love to the Pope in recent days with numerous letters, drawings and messages for a speedy recovery are treated. Pope Francis touched the pain of these children who daily carry on their shoulders the sufferings of the Cross, together with their mothers and fathers. To each of them he gave a rosary and a book. Greeting those present, His Holiness thanked all the medical staff for their professionalism and their efforts to relieve the pain of others, not only with medicines, but also with tenderness and humanity.
The health team that follows Pope Francis has confirmed the Holy Father’s exit from the A. Gemelli hospital in the morning of tomorrow, Friday, June 16.”
