The new weekly report of the epidemiological surveillance of Respiratory Infections of the EODY was released today, in which it is stated that 37 deaths from coronavirus were recorded and 29 patients were hospitalized with intubation between June 5 and June 11.
At the same time, no new serious cases of influenza were recorded during the same period.
Also, in the cases of coronavirus, the “Kraken” sub-variant of the coronavirus (XBB.1.5) and the “Arcturo” sub-variant (XBB.1.16) were detected more.

Influenza syndromes (regardless of pathogen)
✓ a decrease compared to the previous week was recorded in the community SARS-CoV2 virus – COVID-19 infection
✓ the positivity of all tested samples showed a decrease compared to the previous week ✓ the number of admissions for COVID-19 (356) showed a decrease compared to the previous week and a decrease of 38% compared to the average weekly number of new admissions by the previous 4 weeks
✓ the number of new intubations (4) showed a decrease compared to the previous week and a 71% decrease compared to the average weekly number of new intubations during the previous 4 weeks
✓ the number of intubated patients with COVID-19 infection is 29 ✓ 37 deaths were recorded with a median age of 82 years (range 56-92 years)
✓ during the last weeks all sequenced strains belonged to Omicron sub-variants BA.2 and BA.5, with BA.2 predominating from week 9 onwards ✓ at week 20 the most frequent BA.2 sub-variant was XBB.1.5 (80%), followed by XBB.1.16 (14%)

✓ during the same period, 372 samples positive for influenza viruses (sentinel samples and hospital samples) were registered in the two influenza reference centers, of which 289 (78%) were type A strains and 83 (22%) type B strains ✓ out of 287 strains of type A that were subtyped, 258 (90%) were classified as subtype A(H3N2) and 29 (10%) as subtype A(H1N1)pdm09
✓ during the last weeks, a prevalence of the influenza type B virus has been recorded
