The announcement of the Turkish Foreign Ministry in detail
“We are deeply saddened by the sinking of a fishing vessel carrying irregular migrants off the coast of Greece on June 14, resulting in the loss of many lives, including children and women. We express our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
This tragedy in the Mediterranean region will neither be the first nor the last. It is not possible to prevent such disasters without eliminating the causes of irregular migration. Looking backwards for solutions can only increase the suffering of migrants and asylum seekers, as well as deaths at sea.
Improving the living conditions of refugees and asylum seekers and finding lasting solutions to their problems is a shared responsibility of all of us. This tragic incident has once again demonstrated the urgent need for the international community to find a solution to this issue.
As World Refugee Day approaches, June 20, we once again call on the international community to share responsibilities and burdens fairly and work collectively to eliminate the root causes of migration flows in our region.”
