Egypt has been shocked by the horrific crime of a 30-year-old woman who killed and ate her own child.
The unthinkable murder took place at the end of April in the Sharqiya province, in the Nile Delta, where the 30-year-old woman (she had separated from her husband three years ago) lived alone with her 5-year-old boy.
Today, in an Egyptian court, the shocking crime is being revived, as the child-murdering mother is on trial.

The woman drowned her son, little Youssef, cut his body into pieces and put them in a bucket, then cooked part of his head and ate it.
The crime was discovered by the child’s uncle, during his visit to the mother’s house, where he saw the child’s body cut into pieces, placed in a bucket.
The mother had psychological problems and believed that by eating her child, it would return to her womb.
As she told the police when she was arrested, the 30-year-old killed her child to take revenge on the father, who wanted to take him from her.
“I wanted to keep him with me forever…” Hanaa said.
