Although he was “one of the first people to sign up for this trip,” he eventually decided, as he said, “the risks were too great” and withdrew from the trip.
At the last moment he changed his mind 61-year-old multi-millionaire Chris Brown and did not board the fatal submarine that has been lost in the depths of the ocean while exploring the wreck of the Titanic.
Brown, 61, was ready to follow him billionaire Hamish Harding. In fact, he had also given an advance for the trip. However, he changed his mind and canceled the exploration because, he said, he believed that OceanGate “made cuts.”
According to what he told the Sun newspaper, he was concerned about the quality of technology and materials that had been used for the vessel.
Among his concerns was the use by OceanGate “old scaffolding” and the fact that the submarine’s controls were “based on video game-style controls’.
He specifically told the Sun that even though he was “one of the first people to sign up for this trip,” he ultimately decided that “the risks were too great.”
Chris Brown added that he feels “really upset about Hamish”, who is among the submarine’s five passengerswhich is still ignored.
Brown, 61, signed up with Hartink for the then £80,000 Titan trip after he said they shared “a few beers” while holidaying on billionaire Richard Branson’s Necker Island.
The two then paid an advance, 10% of the trip the price of which has since more than doubled while the Titan was still under construction, Brown claimed.
He claimed, however, that in the years that followed, he learned that OceanGate had ‘missed key targets’ while testing the submarine.
The multi-millionaire digital marketing mogul found it disturbing that the craft was being controlled by a modified Playstation controller. It also seems that he was concerned about the technical issues and Mssdelays throughout the submarine development process.
“I found out they used old scaffolding poles for the submarine’s ballast. If you are trying to build your own submarine, you could probably use old scaffolding poles. But this was a commercial vessel,” he told the Sun.
Chris Brown, who says that “he’s not one to avoid danger,” finally emailed OceanGate and requested a refund canceling the submarine trip.
Now, he is particularly worried about Harding’s friend who, however, as he said does not panic easily. He believes that the billionaire is likely to be “extremely calm” and “process plans and ideas through his enormous brain.”
