Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama gave a “battle” of compliments on Monday during his first visit to Tirana.
“Albania is the neighbor of my heart, despite the fact that there are borders between us,” Erdogan said, confirming the extremely warm climate.
He made an impression that he was inaugurating a mosque, while promising help to Albania. Specifically, despite the fact that Turkey is facing an economic crisis, the Turkish president promised more assistance in every field, both financial and military. “We are brothers with the Albanians,” he said.
For his part, as Manolis Kostidis reports, the Albanian prime minister did not lag behind in compliments, as he characterized the Turkish president as the “only leader who keeps his word”.
“Europe cannot exist without Turkey,” Rama said.
Erdogan was welcomed at Rina Airport by the Albanian Prime Minister, and shortly afterwards attended the handover ceremony of five hundred and twenty apartments built with Turkish government funds for the victims of the devastating 2020 earthquake in the city of Liaci, northwest of Tirana.
In honor of the Turkish president it was decided to give his name to the central square of the city.
After his meeting with the Albanian Prime Minister, the President of Turkey also addressed the Turkish Parliament.
