The White House announced today Sunday that the American president Joe Biden and the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the “recent events” in Russia, in the wake of the brief mutiny by fighters of the Wagner paramilitary group.

“They discussed the ongoing Ukrainian counteroffensive, and President Biden reaffirmed unwavering US support, including through continued security assistance, as well as economic and humanitarian assistance,” according to the statement.

Volodymyr Zelensky, in a message on social media, said that he spoke today with his American counterpart Joe Biden about the aborted mutiny of the Wagner paramilitary mercenary organization, yesterday Saturday in Russia, adding that these events showed the weakness of leadership of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Zelenskiy expressed satisfaction with the “positive and inspiring conversation” with Joe Biden.

“We discussed the course of hostilities and ‘processes’ taking place in Russia. The world must put pressure on Russia until international order is restored,” the Ukrainian president said. Zelensky also discussed further expansion of defense cooperation with an emphasis on long-range weapons.
