London, Thanasis Gavos
As of today, all eligible citizens in the United Kingdom have the opportunity to make an appointment to receive the third, booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine as soon as five months have passed since the second dose.
The third dose, however, will be given six months after the second dose.
The new measure is part of the efforts of the British government and the NHS health system to speed up the vaccination program of the booster dose given to citizens over 50 and the most vulnerable.
It was announced on Sunday that the number of citizens who have already taken the boost has exceeded 10 million, but progress has called into question the government’s goal of vaccinating all 32 million eligible citizens by Christmas. At the same time, the NHS emphasizes that there are 4.5 million citizens who have not even made the first installment.
Health Minister Sajid Javid called on citizens to take the boost as soon as possible to protect themselves in the winter and to avoid restrictive measures at Christmas time.
However, the opposition accuses the minister of “chaotic” organization of the vaccination program regarding the third dose and the vaccination of minors, demanding an immediate improvement of the appointment system.
